OXFORD — Extension of water service up Pigeon Hill to a new water reservoir on the Oxford Resort Casino property is just weeks from completion, an official said Thursday.

Thomas Kennison, who chairs the Oxford Water District Board of Directors, said Thursday at a meeting of the Oxford Economic Development Advisory Council that the water should be running by the end of the year, or early January at the latest.

The reservoir, which is being built by the Natgun Corp., will hold up to 500,000 gallons of water. Kennison said Natgun will soon be wrapping 17 miles of wire around the tank to hold it together. After the tank has been wrapped, workers will put a gray outside coating over it.

Kennison said the worst part of the construction on Route 26 is over. The pipes under the road have been completed and the road has been paved over them. A pipe will be built up the side of the road.

The waterline extension and reservoir is a $1.5 million project Oxford voters approved in July. Black Bear Development paid $500,000 of the cost and the town borrowed the other $1 million from Bob Bahre, one of the investors in the casino and a real estate developer.

The reservoir is on casino property under a deeded easement to the town.
