BIDDEFORD — Betty Lillian Poutot Phillips, 93, of Ocean Park, passed away Oct. 28, at the Southern Maine Medical Center.

She was born in West Haven, Conn., Aug. 14, 1918, the daughter of Rene and Lillian Amendt Poutot.

She went through the West Haven school system graduating from West Haven High School in 1936. In 1940, she graduated from the Baptist Institute for Christian Workers in Philadelphia, Pa.

On Sept. 27, 1941, she married the Rev. Albert R. Phillips at Tioga Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pa.

Together they served churches in Manchester Center, Vt., Brooklyn, N.Y., Bronx, N.Y., Natick, Mass., Central Square Baptist Church in Portland, and the United Baptist Church in Saco. The family also lived in Greenfield, Mass., and again in Natick, Mass., while Mr. Phillips served the Baptist denomination in a staff capacity. In 1976, they retired to Ocean Park, and joined the United Baptist Church in Saco. Mr. Phillips passed away in February 2000.

The church was always the center of her life beginning in Calvary Baptist Church in New Haven, Conn. She was active in the American Baptist Women’s Ministries throughout her life serving in various offices. In Saco, she was a member of the Friendship Class and the Fidelis Class. In Ocean Park, she belonged to the Toilers by the Sea, Seacoasters 50+ club, and the Free Baptist Women’s Missionary Society.

She is survived by four children, Richard Phillips of Australia, Renee Reid of Ocean Park, Nancy and her husband, Glenn Ross, of Franklin, Mass., and Craig and his wife, Debra, of Auburn; 11 grandchildren, Cherith and Jordon Phillips, Eric and Joshua Reid, Megan James, Susan Simon, Katie and Christopher Ross, Chase Phillips, Roxanne Davis-Cote and Sandra Davis Gidney; six great-grandchildren; a niece, Jean Poutot; nephews, Vernon Phillips and John Poutot and his family; cousins and special friends.
