ACTON, Mass. — Michael “Mike” Anthony Rivero, 22, of Acton, Mass., died Oct. 26, of injuries from a commuter rail train.
He was born July 14, 1989, in Lewiston. He attended grade school in Lewiston and was active in Cub Scouts and the local soccer league. The family moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he attended grade school and middle school in the Medina Valley School District in Castroville, Texas. During this period of time, he continued in scouting and soccer. He also played the trumpet in the school band.
The family relocated to Acton, Mass., where he graduated in 2007 from Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. During high school and after graduation, he proudly worked at both the Acton and Burlington Roche Brothers supermarkets. He attended Endicott College in Beverly, Mass., to study Business Management and Accounting. His goal after obtaining his degree was to work in and eventually run the family business, Visiting Angels.
Mike spent most of his years close with his family, including all of his cousins on his mother’s side. They grew up together and stayed nearly inseparable despite the sometimes long distances between them. His cousins, Ben and Renaud graduated their own respective high schools in the same year as him and they all arranged to attend the same senior prom.
Mike enjoyed watching documentaries on the History and Discovery channels, watching Doctor Who, playing strategy games, and regular delivery of dead-pan humor that kept a smile on the faces of all those around him. His friends and co-workers describe him as smart, funny, and a good friend.
He is survived by his parents, Karen Louise Ferland Rivero and Martin (“Tony”) Antonio Rivero; his younger sister, Jennifer (“Jen”) Rose Rivero of Acton, Mass.; his older brother, Jeffrey (Jeff”) Brian Ferland of Portland; on his mother’s side includes, Robert (Bob) Mark and Jocelyn Beedy Ferland of Casco and their children, Benjamin “Ben” Taylor, Rachel Mary and Katherine (“Kate”) Brenna, Lynda Jane Ferland Morin and Charles Morin of Lewiston and their children, Ashley Nadeau, Renaud (“Ren”) Nadeau, Emily Morin and Colby Morin and William (Bill) Ferland of Lewiston; on his father’s side includes, Sherrie Rivero of Houston, Texas, Joan Rivero of New York, N.Y., and Marisa Rivero of Austin, Texas.
