PARIS — The Paris Public Library’s 2011 Summer Reading Challenge concluded recently with an Ice Cream Sundae Party. Reading certificates, book bags and program rewards were distributed to attendees and the drawing held for a color Nook among those who had read more than 24 hours (1,440 minutes) during the summer.

One hundred and six children turned in reading logs this summer, nearly double the number from last year. The group read 217,800 minutes, achieving an average of 34 hours and 15 minutes a child.

Rheeannon Bourget was the top reader for the summer, reading 11,441 minutes (more than 190 hours). Rheeannon, who provided book reviews for the library’s children’s book newsletter, Book Buzz, also won the Nook.

Children who read more than 12 hours were given book bags; children who read 24 hours or more received $10 gift certificates and were entered in the drawing for the Nook. Seventy-four participants read for 24 hours or more.

Nine readers who read more than 4,000 minutes were given $25 gift certificates. Those readers were Rheeannon Bourget, Payton Abbott, Gavin Booker, Silas Gordon, Kaylynn Johnson, Meredith Potter, Lacey Ryder, Sophrinia Smith and Joshua Wessels.
