YARMOUTH — It took all of two plays before the Lisbon football team was playing from behind Friday night.

That’s how many snaps it took for the Yarmouth Clippers to get their running game moving. The Greyhounds were playing chase from there and never could catch up as Yarmouth took home a 38-0 victory in a Western C semifinal.

“They always play well against Lisbon,” said Greyhound coach Dick Mynahan. “I’m not disappointed with the way our team played. We played hard football for 48 minutes.”

Lisbon just couldn’t match the potentency of Yarmouth’s offense. Anders Overhaug had two touchdowns and 151 yards rushing on 17 carries. While fellow back Caleb Uhl added a pair of scores and 139 yards on 15 tries. The Clippers ground out 324 yards on 50 carries.

“I thought it was an outstanding performance by our three running backs,” said Yarmouth coach Jim Hartman. “Anders and Caleb ran with authority.  Matt Woodbury had an outstanding game. He made some blocks for us and gave us some balance.”

Lisbon struggled to get the offense untracked. The Greyhounds totalled just 124 yards, 104 of which came on the ground. Zack Splude led Lisbon with 75 yards on 23 carries.

“We had a few plays here or there,” said Mynahan. “Give them credit, they’re quick. They’re a good defensive team. They’re probably as good on defense as they are on offense. Every yard, you have to earn.”

Lisbon started the game with a Mason Haley run for seven yards followed by a Splude gain of nine. Then a fumble gave Yarmouth the ball at the 41. After a stop on the first play, Overhaug took the Clipper’s second play 41 yards for the score with 10:15 left in the first quarter.

“The hole opened up,” said Overhaug. “I cut around a linebacker and went down the sidelines.”

Yarmouth nearly doubled the lead on its next possession but had to settle for a 26-yard field goal by Bryce Snyder late in the first quarter.

Then the first of three Lisbon interceptions set up another Yarmouth score. Uhl finished off the four-play drive from the 1 for a 17-0 lead with 5:57 left in the half.

“We thought we had them at times, but we missed a tackle here or there and they had that extra step every time,” said Mynahan.

Yarmouth got the ball to start the second half and it took just one play to make it 24-0. Overhaug burst up the middle and outran the Lisbon defense with 11:41 left.

“It was another big hole,” said Overhaug. “I just split the two safeties. It was great blocking up front.”

Lisbon only had 24 yards of offense in the second half.

“It was a tough night all around, but you have those once in a while,” said Mynahan.

Yarmouth added a Brady Neujahr plunge from the 1 late in the third. Then Uhl scored from 37 yards out in the fourth.

“We changed our motions and formations package against them,” said Hartman. “We don’t just have very good athletes but also smart kids. Last night we just changed things. We had an inkling about what was going to happen and changed some things.”
