All my life, I’ve heard people blame politicians for all kinds of things. But I’ve never heard people blame themselves for electing the politicians.

The votes of the recent elections weren’t even counted and the blame game was running rampant. Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert was blaming the media and the governor for losing the casino vote; Charlie Webster was blaming outside interests for the success of the people’s veto.

Occupy Wall Street blames banks and big money for influencing elections. Well guess what? None of those interests have ever influenced my vote, and making those complaints makes me wonder all the more about the people who make such claims.

If the people of America think money is influencing their vote, I suggest they either accept it or stop letting it happen. If outside interests are changing people’s minds, then they need to get a grip and vote accordingly.

Meanwhile, if people would be so kind as to hold me, a typical American voter, responsible for my vote, it would acknowledge the respect I deserve, and go a long way toward achieving effective leadership.
