LEWISTON — In the largest search of its kind in more than a decade, police fanned out and searched for the body of Christiana Fesmire on Sunday, looking in swamps, woods and behind the Auburn Wal-Mart.

State Police spokesman Steve McCausland said in a release that the Maine Warden Service coordinated 60 volunteers and 18 tracking dogs to search 20 locations in Lewiston, Auburn, Lisbon and Mechanic Falls.

They came up empty.

Fesmire, 22, has been missing since July. Last month, Buddy Robinson, 30, of Lewiston, was charged with her murder. According to court records, Robinson allegedly told his sister that after drowning Fesmire in a bathtub, he took her body to a swampy area.

McCausland said areas off Farwell and Webster streets in Lewiston were searched in addition to railroad tracks in Mechanic Falls.

Police haven’t mounted a search this large here since 1995, he said. That had been for a missing high school student later found dead.

“No more searches are planned for the immediate future,” McCausland added.
