FARMINGTON — Ann McCloskey White of Livermore Falls, formerly of West Farmington and a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Saturday, Nov. 12, on the second anniversary of her husband’s passing, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, with her daughter, grandson and granddaughter at her side. She had been a resident of Edgewood Manor for several months due to declining health and her heart and sense of humor touched many of her dedicated caregivers. She was 84.

Ann was born on March 1, 1927, in Brooklyn, the youngest child of Dennis and Minnie (Hargreaves) McCloskey. She attended and graduated from St. Teresa of Avila Parochial School and Girls Commercial High School in Brooklyn, where she received many awards in spelling, English and math.

In 1951, she married Leonard E. White at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn. They celebrated a very special surprise 50th anniversary in 2001 on Staten Island. She devoted her life to her husband and they made their homes in Hightstown and Hamilton Square, N.J., before moving to Maine in 1977.

Ann held a variety of jobs in her lifetime, starting with American Airlines and secretarial work in New York and New Jersey, then finding employment in Maine first at Farmington Shoe in the payroll department, then as secretary to the late Jonathan Luce, Esq., and finally landing her dream job at the Farmington Public Library in the 1980s. At the library, she enjoyed her work almost as much as the friendships she made with Colleen, Barbara and Polly.

In her spare time, Ann got lost in a good book, enjoyed a challenging crossword puzzle and especially loved camping and traveling the rugged coast of Maine and the western United States with her husband in their much loved rickety RV. She appreciated nature and tranquility and found the “goodness” in every person she met. She had great attachments to her grandchildren, who filled her life with joy.

Ann is survived by one son, Thomas White and his wife, Rose, of Lincoln; one daughter, Maureen Oswald and her husband, Gary, of Jay; five grandchildren, Matthew White of Livermore Falls, Tyler and Ethan White of Lincoln and Michelle and Mikayla Oswald of Jay; two sisters, Karen Anderson of Staten Island, N.Y., and Anita DeSena of Tobyhanna, Pa.; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Rita Donohue of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a very devoted godson, Joseph Cona of Long Island, N.Y.; a longtime friend, Carol Grindle; and she also leaves behind her adorable, affectionate, four-footed companion, “Sophie.”

She was predeceased by her parents; brother; and sister and her husband, Leonard.

Ann’s family was touched by the patience and kind, loving care given by many people, including the staff at Edgewood Manor, the nurses at Franklin Memorial Hospital, the expert staff of Beacon Hospice, personal caregiver and friend, Beth Kennedy, and especially the constant support and love of Nancy Chaney.

Condolences and tributes may be shared on her memorial wall at www.wilesrc.com.
