FARMINGTON, Maine (AP) — Two former inmates at the Franklin County jail have settled their federal civil rights lawsuit in which they claimed guards intentionally tainted their food as a prank.
The case was scheduled to go to trial Monday in U.S. District Court in Bangor, but was settled several days ago.
A lawyer for the ex-inmates tells the Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/rDKO10) he is prohibited by a confidentiality agreement from disclosing terms of the deal.
An attorney for the county says the settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing.
Robert Ayer of New Sharon and Stephen Wing of Industry said in the suit that female corrections officers in 2008 contaminated veal patties and spaghetti with pepper spray, Mace or some other noxious chemical and then laughed when they became sick and requested medical attention.
