NORWAY — “An Updated Retrospective “by Ron Hamilton is on exhibit at Norway Savings Bank Operations Center, 356 Main St., through November.

It includes more than a dozen pieces created in the recent three years at Hamilton’s studio in Oxford, where he and fellow artists gather to paint on Friday mornings.

Hamilton grew up in Buffalo, N.Y., and spent 12 years in the Navy during the Cold War, participating in the ASW patrols in old propeller planes as company commander and instructor. He also worked on A4 jets during the Vietnam era.

In 2005, Hamilton retired and started art instruction with some Maine artists. Their instruction, coaching, kibitzing moved him into a new direction from craftsman and builder to artist.

He said, “Painting has become a daily habit (not work). The idea of doing something other people may enjoy has motivated me to pursue another late-life change.”

Visit the Lajos Matolcsy Art Gallery Wednesday to Sunday afternoons to view more of his work and check out the jewelry his daughter has created. For more information, call 743-7813 or email doufus@yahoo.com.
