You’re not much of a shopper, which may explain why you put off the purchase of Christmas gifts until the last minute. Yep, you’re one of those last-minute shoppers delving through the leftovers on store shelves on Christmas Eve. This year, you’re changing your ways. Here are some tips to ensure you’re successful.

Research beforehand

While some people may tell you exactly what they want, others won’t have any idea and leave the choosing to you. Find out ahead of time what recipients like, want and need, and do some online shopping to see what’s out that there might suit them.

Start early

Some people start their shopping the day after Christmas. You may not be able to go that far, but you can certainly be on the lookout for good deals throughout the year. You never know when one might pop up, and the earlier you start your shopping, the better the savings and selection will be. You might also get finished sooner!

Make a list

Don’t go shopping without any inkling of what you need to buy. This will lead to impulse purchases and an empty wallet in no time. Determine beforehand whom you need to buy for, what you need to buy them and how much you intend to spend on them.

Be selective

Anyone can pick out a gift for someone. To make your gifts special, you need to put thought into what you buy and take the time to personalize each and every gift, either with a handwritten note or some other token. Let the recipient know why you selected what you did, and when possible, make it theirs with monograms, photos and such.

Present with care

After all the time you put in shopping, you don’t want to stuff your gifts into bags and drop them at recipients’ feet. They won’t know how much effort you put into the selection process and their reaction may show it. Take the time to wrap your gifts beautifully and watch them get opened. The smiles you receive will make all of the effort worthwhile!
