FARMINGTON — Margaret “Maggie” Ellen Brown McKee, 84, of Kingfield, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 12, at Orchard Park Nursing Facility.

Margaret was born on May 15, 1927, in Berea, Ohio, the only daughter of Florence Crawford Brown and Paul Stuart Brown. Her family moved to Akron, Ohio, in 1937, where Margaret graduated from West High School in 1945. After her high school graduation, her family moved to a family farm in Enon Valley, Pa. Margaret attended nearby Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa., and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English in June 1949.

Margaret married her husband, William John “Jack” McKee Jr. on Dec. 20, 1948. In 1956, Jack and Margaret moved to Greenville, Pa., where Jack pursued his newspaper reporting career. Besides raising her four children, Margaret taught English at Commodore Perry High School and Penn Junior High School, where she later became the school librarian.

Jack and Margaret and all four children moved to the Washington, D.C., area in 1967, when Jack took a staffing position with a congressman representing Pennsylvania, and Margaret took a position as a research librarian for a McKinsey and Company, a management consulting firm in Washington.

At retirement, Jack and Margaret left the Washington, D.C., area in 1984, and moved to Kingfield. During her years in Kingfield, Margaret volunteered for several years at the Webster Library in Kingfield, attended many of her grandchildren’s school and community activities and could be seen on her frequent walks about town. She continued to nurture her passion for books and share her love of cooking with us all.
