STRONG — Geneva Wood Fuels, LLC, was one of three Maine business to receive USDA Rural Development Funds to support production and availability of advanced biofuels.

The company was selected to receive $11,825.77 producing and selling premium-grade hardwood pellets for local schools and residences. The wood pellets are produced from forest biomass feedstock. A total of 5,355 metric tons of wood pellets were produced to generate 87,822,000,000 BTUs.

The payments are authorized under the Bioenergy Program for Advanced Biofuels and are made to eligible producers to support and ensure an expanding production of advanced biofuels. Payments are based on the amount of biofuels a recipient produces from renewable biomass, other than corn kernel starch. Eligible examples include biofuels derived from cellulose, crop residue, animal, food and yard waste material, biogas (landfill and sewage waste treatment gas), vegetable oil and animal fat.
