BOOTHBAY, Maine (AP) — Fire officials say quick-thinking neighbors likely saved the life of a 93-year-old Boothbay man who was pulled from his burning home.

Fire Chief Richard Spofford says two neighbors ran into John Alley’s home at about 8:30 p.m. on Sunday as he slept and roused him out of the house.

No one was injured, although Alley was taken to a hospital for an evaluation.

Alley’s neighbors also pushed his car out of the garage in case the blaze spread.

Spofford says the fire started outside near the front door and spread to the eaves and attic. The cause remains under investigation.

The home suffered smoke and water damage.
