PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce announced its winners for the 2011 Business and Community Awards at a conference Monday.
Chamber Executive Director John Williams said the Board of Directors voted for the winners last week. The awards will be presented at the annual chamber dinner in late January or late February.
The Business of the Year award goes to New Balance Footwear, which runs a factory in Norway and a store in Oxford. Factory manager Darien Keaten was on hand for the award announcement.
Employee of the Year goes to Ted Moccia, principal of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School. This is Moccia’s second major award this year, as the Maine Principals’ Association named him 2011 Principal of the Year.
The Rising Star of the Year award went to Crazy Horse Racing, a store specializing in parts and engines for racing cars. Owners Mitch and Judy Green attended the conference Monday. The store was formerly on Route 118 in Norway but moved to Route 26 in Paris in January.
The Community Service Award went to Right Start, which organizes several community service programs, including Christmas for Kids and Christmas for Teens. Williams said Right Start got presents to 700 children last Christmas.
Michael Godin, a member of the board, said some of the votes were close this year. “There’s a lot of great people in this community,” he said.
Williams said the chamber dinner date hasn’t been set yet because he’s still working on securing a keynote speaker. He said the speaker won’t be a politician this year, as is usually the case, and will probably be a sports figure. Last year, Gov. Paul LePage was the keynote speaker.
