DEAR SUN SPOTS: I wanted to say thank you for your column. It is so very helpful, and I appreciate your work very much.

I was wondering if you could locate a place that offers a CNA class in the evening. I have found several in the area during the day, but I work full time (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and would like to enroll in an evening class. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. — No Name, No Town

ANSWER: Sun Spots did not have much luck either, but she does have some leads for you and readers may have even better options.

Have you looked into an adult education class? There are several listed at maineadulted.org, but, as you noted, many are during the day. However, there were several with times still to be announced, so perhaps a night slot will appear.

If you go to http://maineadulted.org/courses/ and search “CNA,” several pop up. They are not all close by, however. Sun Spots searched for a range of 50 miles and discovered that the courses in Farmington and Buckfield still didn’t have set times.

As you probably already know, the School of Nursing at Central Maine Medical Center no longer offers night courses. Sun Spots was told that they no longer have sufficient staff to offer the course at night.

Helping Hands Trade School (helpinghandstradeschool.com, 571 Sabattus St., Suite 2, Lewiston, ME 04240, 877-449-4694, 777-5294) has a listing for CNA classes, but they are also during the day. That could change, so you might check back.

For readers who might be interested in a similar career, Helping Hands also offers training for personal care assistants.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: It is approaching the first anniversary of the day my mother died. Can you please give an approximate cost of how much it would be to put her picture with a brief memorial in the paper for my children? Also how do I go about doing that? Thank you for you time. — Samantha via email

ANSWER: Memorials are considered an advertisement and appear on the obituary page. To place your memoriam call classifieds at 783-2281 or toll free at 1-800-482-0935 or email class2@sunjournal.com

Some examples of sizes and prices for these ads are one column, 1 inch long for $23.41, one column, 4 inches long for $93.64, two columns at 1¼ inches for $58.53 and a two-column, 3-inch ad for $140.46. There is an additional 5 percent charge for memoriams that appear in Sunday’s paper.

The advertising department will lay out your memoriam for you, but along with the size, you can choose the border you want.

If you want help picking out a verse for your memoriam, you can go online to www.generations.on.ca. The fourth pink tab is “memorials” and at the end of that you ‘ll see a link for 200 verses from which you can choose.

Memoriams must be prepaid. If you live nearby, you might want to come in to the Sun Journal’s customer service department to make arrangements and pay, or alternatively, you could mail in a check or use a credit or debit card. The Sun Journal accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.

Deadline for placing memoriams is before 10 a.m. for publication the next day except for Saturday, Sunday and Monday papers, when the deadline is before 10 a.m. on Friday. Deadlines for holidays are also early.
