SOUTH PARIS — Hazel Draper Holland Russell, 87, of Hartford, died Thursday, Nov. 24, at the Maine Veterans’ Home.

She was born in Canton on Dec. 16, 1923, the daughter of Benjamin and Jennie Wetmore Draper. She was the seventh child. She graduated from Canton High School with the Class of 1942.

She was then employed at the Diamond Match Mill in Dixfield.

She married Richard Holland of Buckfield in October 1943. Richard was killed in the Normandy invasion of World War II.

On June 7, 1947, she married Robert Russell of Hartford. They made their home in Hartford, raising two children. Hazel worked at various nursing homes as a CNA, drove a school bus and loved gardening.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane Jordan and her husband, Laurence, of Hartford; a son, Robert Russell Jr. and his wife, Gladys, of Hartford; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband; five sisters; and a brother.
