PARIS — The former fire station on Pine Street will go on sale soon and Town Manager Phil Tarr said there is an interested buyer.

Tarr said the board previously decided to put the building out for bid to various real estate agencies. “I’m going to suggest something different — that we just advertise the building for sale,” Tarr told selectmen.

Tarr said he knew of someone interested in purchasing the building. “If we can do that without incurring costs from a real estate broker, why not?”

Chairman Ted Kurtz said it was important to make clear what part of the property is up for sale, because the Highway Department uses the lot behind the old station for snow dumping. “We ought to have some idea what it is we’re selling,” Kurtz said.

Tarr said the town’s minimum lot size is half an acre. That would give potential owners access to both sides of the building, he said.

Town Clerk Elizabeth Knox said the town had already drawn up a map in the original sales information.

The station hasn’t been used in years since the town built one on Western Avenue. When the board last discussed the matter in April, selectmen were told the building would cost $27,000 to demolish, not counting hazardous waste removal. Since then, Tarr said the estimated cost of waste disposal would be about $105,000.

The board decided that selling the property would be the most cost-effective option.
