MEXICO — The Region 9 board next week will consider whether to allow the office of the Western Valley Access Channel to move into the vocational school.

Region 9 Director Brenda Gammon said the staff and volunteers from Local Access Channel 7 toured the River Road site a month or so ago, and have since been discussing the possibility. The access channel office has been housed at University College at Rumford/Mexico in Mexico for several years.

The vocational school has one small room available on the second floor.

“We’re looking at what they could offer our students,” Gammon said.

If an agreement is worked out, then the space could be used by the access channel at no cost.

Gammon said the vocational school is considering the development of a commercial to promote the school, and wants to use some of the access channel’s equipment to benefit the students in other ways.

“I’m recommending that they move in,” she said.

In other matters at Region 9, the first parent-teacher conferences were held earlier this month with a more than 80 percent turnout of parents.

“We wanted to be able to connect to the home and to answer any questions.

We want to build the bridge between school and home,” Gammon said. “We had a lot of positive feedback.

When the board meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, it will also enter into a closed session to discuss a personnel matter.
