RUMFORD — Twelve Friends of the Rumford Public Library met on Nov. 17 at a regularly scheduled follow-up meeting to discuss fundraising and ideas to increase visibility and awareness of the value of the library to our community.

Librarian Luke Sorensen expressed appreciation to the Friends for the recent purchase of a computer for the librarian’s office. He shared some of his ideas for fundraising and increased community support. Sorensen stated that the library will again offer free basket raffles to patrons at Christmastime. He welcomed any donations from individuals. Items may be brought directly to the library no later than Dec. 1.

Jane Shuck reported on the work she has done in preparation for the library’s tree at this year’s Festival of Trees on Dec. 10. She emphasized that the participation gives further visibility to the library and that the event itself accentuates warm community spirit. She will gladly accept assistance from anyone who may wish to help with this event.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 5, at 4 p.m. Membership in the Friends of the Rumford Library is open to anyone who wishes to support the library in this way. Membership fee is $10 per individual. Application forms are available at the library. All members are enthusiastically encouraged to attend and participate in meetings.

The library is pleased to announce that it is again open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
