Here is one senior who is not opposed to immigrants living in Lewiston and doing business on Lisbon Street.

Like many cities in America, Lewiston’s downtown was dormant for a number of years — the businesses gone, the buildings empty and nonproductive.

Now, there are businesses everywhere. There are people downtown, and that activity has contributed to a resurgence of the arts, enjoyed by many from Lewiston and beyond.

It takes time to rebuild a downtown, but business activity contributes to the tax base, and immigrants who own businesses are doing their part to support the city.

And let us not forget the farmers markets, which offer locally grown, healthful foods to us all.

As has happened over and over again, down through the years, immigrants are coming to Lewiston, and they are making the city better.

When Lewiston residents cast their votes for mayor, I hope they will support the growing vibrancy of our city, and choose the candidate who will work with all of Lewiston’s residents for a better future.
