PORTLAND — The Black Keys — Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney of Akron, Ohio, will embark on the first leg of their U.S. tour this March, including a March 6 date at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

The concerts are in support of the group’s new album, “El Camino,” due out Dec. 6 on Nonesuch Records. In advance of the release, five tracks from the record are currently streaming on the band’s website, www.theblackkeys.com.

“El Camino” follows the most successful two years in The Black Keys’ career. In May 2010, the duo released its breakthrough album, “Brothers.” Debuting at No. 2 in the United States, it went on to win three Grammy Awards and an MTV Video Music Award, and topped numerous year-end lists, including iTunes, NPR, and Rolling Stone.

“Brothers,” which includes the hit singles “Tighten Up” and “Howlin’ for You,” has been certified gold in the United States and United Kingdom, and platinum in Canada.

Describing the sound of “El Camino,” recorded in Nashville, drummer Patrick Carney told Rolling Stone, “Every record, we figure out the mood and stick with that. With ‘Brothers,’ we were listening to a lot of hip-hop and old R&B and drawing from that. This is the first record we’ve made where it’s all rock ‘n’ roll.”

Auerbach and Carney are scheduled to appear on “The Late Show with David Letterman” on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Opening the 7:30 p.m. concert will be Arctic Monkeys.

General admission tickets, $45, go on sale at noon Friday, Dec. 9. They may be purchased at the Cumberland County Civic Center box office, by calling 800-745-3000 and online at www.statetheatreportland.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
