LEWISTON — Androscoggin Volunteer Association will host a Volunteer Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at SeniorsPlus, 8 Falcon Road.

The AVA is a group that consists of organizations and nonprofits that rely heavily on efforts of volunteer staff. Each month, the AVA meets to network about opportunities for volunteers here in Androscoggin County.

In an effort to connect people who are seeking volunteer opportunities and the local organizations that are looking for volunteer help, the AVA is hosting its first-ever Volunteer Fair.

“In these tough times, many people are looking for ways to help,” said Angela Coombs, volunteer resources coordinator for United Way. “You’d be surprised how many people are looking to lend a hand. They just don’t know where to begin.”

Local organizations that will be exhibiting include: Tree Street Youth, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of Lewiston’s inner-city youth;

SEARCH Program of Catholic Charities Maine, a home visitation program helping seniors stay independent;
