BUCKFIELD — For the fourth time this year the donation box at the Buckfield-Sumner Transfer Station has been robbed, according to volunteers at the shop.

Vandals broke a window and stole a small undisclosed amount of cash from a military-style ammunition box attached to the wall to accept donations. The donation box and interior of the shop were damaged during the break-in over the weekend, shop volunteers said.

Buckfield’s town manager notified local law enforcement of the break-in.

Volunteers sort items and clothing donated to the shop and then those items are made available to the public. The shop offers clothing, books, dishes and toys.

In 2010 nearly 40 tons of items were recycled through the shop, saving the town tipping fees while providing needed items to the community for free.

Anyone with information about the vandalism and thefts of money should contact the town office.
