OXFORD — Suzanne Grover has stepped down as president of the Oxford County Agricultural Society after 11 years at the post.

At a membership meeting Tuesday evening, Vice President Jackie Young was elected as her successor.

Young co-owns Young’s Greenhouse in Paris with her husband, Glen, and also serves as the Oxford Fair’s livestock superintendent. She said Suzanne and Rupert Grover offered their help going forward should she need it.

“They said they’d help us any way that they can,” Young said. “They said that they’ll be there for us.”

According to Young, decisions on how the fair could change are up in the air and will be decided by the Board of Directors. She said she expects to have more concrete plans by January on issues such as whether the fair will run four or seven days. “Hopefully we’ll have a plan on where we’re going and what we’re going to do,” Young said Wednesday.

Young praised the Grovers’ dedication to the fair. “I bet most people in this community don’t realize how deep-rooted their commitment to the Oxford Fair is,” Young said in a release.

However, on Wednesday, Young said she feels she’s up to the task. “We’re ready to go and we’ve got a team that’s ready to go.”

In a news release, Suzanne Grover said it was time for a change. “My husband, Rupert, and I felt it was time for the next generation of leadership to be able to put their stamp on things,” Grover said.

“I know Jackie is truly dedicated to the proud traditions that the Fair represents in Oxford County and throughout Maine.”

The Oxford Fair takes place every fall on the 100-acre Oxford Fairgrounds and includes horse racing, livestock demonstrations, live music, carnival rides and other attractions.
