LISBON FALLS — Pastor Jong Sun Lim became an ordained elder within the New England Conference of the United Methodist Church on June 9.

Lim currently serves as the pastor of the Lisbon United Methodist Church on School Street. The process of becoming an elder began in 1997, upon his entry to seminary at Boston University in the Master of Divinity program. Throughout this journey, Lim was required to fulfill many goals, including studying with a mentor, Rev. George Abosanra; interviewing with the District Committee of Ordained Ministry; and serving in several churches in Massachusetts in the cities of Hull, Worcester and Weymouth. In 2008, Pastor Lim was assigned to the Lisbon United Methodist Church.

Lim moved to the United States from Korea on Dec. 3, 1996, four days after his marriage to his wife, Eun Youn. Eun Youn was no stranger to life as a member of a minister’s family, for her father was a minister, and she and Jong Sun met in her father’s church. They promptly moved to Boston after their wedding so Eun Youn could attend Boston University in January, 1997, with Jong Sun following in June. In July 2001, their first daughter, Janet, was born, followed by Laura in July 2006.

Lim was recently accepted into the Doctor of Ministry program at the Gordon-Corwell Seminary in Hampton, Mass. He plans to have a concentration in pastoral counseling/preaching, which will enhance his long term goal of continuing to learn about the ministry to become a more effective pastor.
