LIVERMORE FALLS — RSU 73 directors voted unanimously Thursday to expel a middle school student.

After more than an hour executive session for a disciplinary hearing and to discuss an Oct. 24 and Oct. 25 incident, the board made its findings public.

They found that the student possessed marijuana, drug paraphernalia and weapons on school property. They also found that the student smoked marijuana on a school bus, vandalized school property by cutting a school bus seat with a box cutter, damaged the property of a staff member, and engaged in conduct that was deliberately disobedient and disorderly.

The board also found that it was necessary to expel the student.

The school board will consider the student for readmission to school at its meeting on March 8, 2012.

In order for the board to be satisfied that this conduct is not likely to recur, Chairwoman Denise Rodzen said that the student is expected to demonstrate the following at the readmission hearing:

* Restitution is paid for the damage to the school bus that was cut by the student.

* That a substance abuse assessment is conducted to address the nature and extent of the student’s involvement with marijuana and possible other substances.

* That the student engage in counseling/therapy to deal with issues of anger and rage management, self-control, and his attitudes toward authority and the safety of others.

* That a letter of apology is written to the owner of the vehicle damaged by the student and that restitution is made for the damage that occurred.

* That the student be evaluated by a provider elected by RSU 73 prior to return to school, and a report from the provider be shared with the school board at the readmission hearing.
