DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for this column; it is very informative. I have two questions for you. I am looking for a special gun-type gizmo that retailers use to attach two pieces together or to price an item.

Also, I have a no-wax floor that had a small carpet on it for a long time. I cannot remove the dark spot that is left on the floor from this carpet.

Thank you for your help! — No Name via email

ANSWER: Sun Spots turned up “labelers” or “pricing guns” at www.storesupply.com (exact spot on the Web is http://tinyurl.com/c6vzczf). They shoot a sticky label onto a surface.

As for your floor, the problem isn’t the spot under the rug; it’s the rest of the floor, which has faded from exposure to sunlight. The same thing happens if you have furniture that’s been in the same place for a long time, or photos on wood walls, that you move after years in the same place.

There does not appear to be anything you can do to rectify the situation, but maybe readers will have suggestions. Every website Sun Spots visited said there is little to be done about faded flooring except replace it. One site did say that floors often even out over time with uniform exposure to light.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there a hair salon or hair stylist in the area who is knowledgeable in the care, cuts and styles of African-American hair? — Diane, dijon72@myfairpoint.net

ANSWER: Sun Spots does not know, but she is sure her readers will be able to help.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: A few weeks ago, you had a letter requesting unwanted magazines. I wanted to keep it, but the paper got destroyed before I could save it. Could you email me the phone number? — Louise, memere8854@aol.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots went through her archive and the only mention she could find was a request for patterns and magazines for a Nov. 12 craft fair. She does not know of any other outlet, but perhaps readers do. Sun Spots recycles her old magazines.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In your Dec. 2 column Kathleen Cyr was looking for the person selling wool mittens made from wool sweaters. I was at that craft fair selling wool mittens. My telephone number is 395-4949 (home). I also have a cell phone 215-9562. If I should not be home, she can leave a message on my machine and I will return her call. Thank you. — Muriel Patnaude, muriel.patnaude@gmail.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The elementary schools in Wilton are currently having a holiday giving tree event where parents, local businesses, and community members can pick out a tag from the holiday tree in the entryway of either G.D. Cushing School or Academy Hill School. The tags are for coats, boots, ski pants, or gloves for kids in the schools and all the requests will be fulfilled anonymously.

There are more than 360 kids between the two schools and 60 percent qualify for the free and reduced-price lunch program. Please let your readers know about this special opportunity. If they have any questions, they can contact either school for more information. And please, encourage others to find out how they can help their local schools as well. Thanks! — Arin Hilton, arinhilton@gmail.com, 645-9718
