JAY — A New Hampshire man was charged Saturday after police said he stole some prescription drugs from a local residence.

Collier A. Nichols, 26, of Madbury, N.H., faces a charge of theft of schedule W drugs, police Chief Larry White Sr. said.

Nichols came to town to look at a trailer at a residence on Quarry Road.

He bought the trailer and then went into the resident’s home and asked for Tylenol. He got the Tylenol and saw some prescription medicine in a medicine cabinet, White said.

Nichols stole 20 to 25 tablets of hydrocodone, White said.

The resident didn’t realize that the prescription medicine was missing until the next day when he went to take it, he said, and then called police to report the stolen drugs.

Sgt. Troy Young began the investigation and finally tracked down Nichols by telephone and talked to him.

Nichols said the drugs were stolen by someone who was with him but agreed to come to the police station, but he didn’t arrive until after Young left work, White said.

Officer Nicholas Gulliver picked up the investigation and interviewed Nichols, who admitted to stealing the drugs, White said. Police recovered five of the stolen pills, he said.

Nichols was arrested and taken to Franklin County jail in Farmington. He was released on $1,000 cash bail.
