The State Police have a trio of road blocks focused on finding and stopping intoxicated drivers planned for Central Maine during December.
Police will be performing OUI roadblocks in Androscoggin County the evening of Dec. 17, according to a news release from State Police Lt. Walter Grzyb.
“While everyone knows that operating a motor vehicle under the influence poses significant dangers on the roadways,” Grzyb said, “many people still do it.”
“Our hope is to find those folks and get them off the road before they hurt themselves or others,” he said.
State Police will also be operating roadblocks in Cumberland County on Dec. 16 and in Oxford County on Dec. 23.
Grzyb warned that the number of impaired drivers increases around the holidays as people leave get-togethers with friends, co-workers and family after drinking.
The roadblocks are funded by a Maine Department of Highway Safety Grant focusing on impaired driving, he said.
