100 years ago, 1911
Again the matter of urging the Grand Trunk Railroad to move its Lewiston passenger station to Main Street or near the corner of Main and Lincoln, is being agitated. It is understood that the officials of the road are seriously considering the proposition and that if the change is made as now hoped for by Lewiston people, a new station will be erected at the corner of Lincoln and Main streets and the old station will be used for a freight shed.
50 years ago, 1961
The first officers have been elected by the area’s newest automobile club, The Stick Shifts. The group, which met Tuesday night at the YMCA, elected Walter Emery, president; Ray Jackson, vice president; Wayne Cormier, secretary; James Stevens, treasurer, and Richard Fuller, sergeant-at-arms. Attending the initial session of the group was Auburn Police Chief Alton E. Savage.

PARIS — Oxford County has been selected, along with two other Maine counties, to share more than $44,000 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs.
Oxford’s allotment is $14,150, Androscoggin County is receiving $30,596 and the award for Franklin County is not in yet.
The selection of the three Maine counties was made by a national board made up of affiliates of national voluntary organizations and chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
