100 years ago, 1911
A Lewiston man, aged about 25 years, was arrested by Officer Picard of the Lewiston police Saturday evening and locked up on the charge of indecent exposure. The offense is alleged to have been committed in Woolworth’s Lisbon Street store, and the arrest was made there. The case will be heard this morning.
50 years ago, 1961
Lewiston police have picked up three juvenile boys who set three fires inside Martel School, held their own Christmas party and destroyed holiday decorations in all rooms.
The young boys also stole $6 from teacher’s desks and the money has been recovered, it was reported yesterday.
Vandalism at the school was reported to police last Friday afternoon and the case was cleared within 24 hours. The boys, ages 8, 9 and 12, will face juvenile authorities.
25 years ago, 1986
Patricia M. McDonough, commissioner of the Maine Department of Labor, issued Wednesday a reminder to all employees and employers that on Jan. 1, the legal minimum hourly wage in the state of Maine will increase from $3.55 to $3.65.
Under the 1984 Public Law, chapter 857, three increases of 10 cents each were established effective the first day of 1985, 1986 and 1987. The increase brings Maine’s minimum wage to 30 cents above the federally established minimum.
