An application from Top Hat Cafe of 924-A Lisbon St for an amusement (dancing) license got a stamp of approval from the Lewiston City Council last night following a hearing at the city building.

The 5-2 decision included negative votes from Ward Two Alderman John M. Lavertu and Ward Three Alderman Roland D. Landry.

Only complaint was from Bertrand J. LeClair, owner of the building in which the cafe is located. LeClair told the board a three-piece orchestra that plays on weekends can be heard “as far” as Arcadia and Prospect avenues.

A Lewiston woman purchased the Eagles Club building at 103 Park St. Friday and announced plans to convert the building into office space.

Jacqueline Laskoff purchased the building for an undisclosed sum from the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Dirigo Aerie #618, according to Realtor Marcel R. Morin, who handled the sale for the FOE.

One tenant for the building has already been found, Morin said. Mrs. Laskoff’s husband, attorney Robert Laskoff, is planning to move his law office into the building, sometime during the coming year.
