OXFORD — Oxford County Leader’s Association held their 4-H Achievement Night on Nov. 18 at the Oxford Recreation Hall. After a supper, provided by the Leader’s Association, members were awarded 4-H project pins and certificates.

Outstanding 4-H volunteers Comfort Curran and Christine Abbott and 4-H members Emily Wardwell and Gemma Young were recognized and presented with plaques. Brittany Farrar was honored with a special Helping Hands award for her many contributions to club and county 4-H events.

Comfort Curran, a long time 4-H volunteer in both Oxford and Androscoggin counties, has done outstanding work with her Stubborn Mules 4-H Club. This club has been involved with year-long equine education, involved with county events and a community service and fund-raising project for equine rescue. Comfort has helped plan and implement many community equine events, and has helped with the new youth ATV safety program in the Poland area.

Christine Abbott received an outstanding volunteer award for her work with the Dalmatians 4-H Club. Christine has a large and active club who complete a wide variety of projects for display at county fairs. Christine is also a supporter of the County Leader’s Association and county programs.

Gemma Young has been a 4-H’er since the age of 6. She is a member of the Dalmatians 4-H Club, Teen Exchange Travel Club and the Saco Valley 4-H Beef, Dairy & Sheep Club. Gemma would like to eventually open her own bakery with money she has earned selling her farm-raised USDA inspected beef and market lambs.

Emily Wardwell has been a member of the Stubborn Mules 4-H Horse Club for seven years. She is a very dedicated member serving as a junior leader assisting with meetings, club projects and teaching others how to ride and care for horses. She is a home-schooled student and also very active in her church, the Poland Library and other community activities.
