DEAR SUN SPOTS: We miss Maineiacs hocky. In the early 1960s we followed the Country Kitchen team. Some players were Jangro, LaFrance, St. Onge, Cloutier and Rodenhizer. I would like to find a photo of that team. Would anyone have one or know where I could find one? I still have a stick given to me by Joe Jangro. Thanks. — Sylvia Crafts, Jay

ANSWER: It’s possible the good people at the Androscoggin Historical Society or the University of Southern Maine Franco-American Collection might have such a picture and would be willing to make a copy if you pay a fee. Or perhaps another hockey fan has one they’d like to share.

You can visit the historical society’s website at www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~meandrhs/, call them at 784-0586 or 786-2129, or visit them in the County Building on Court Street in Auburn, Wednesday through Friday from 1:30 to 5 p.m. They might close early on Fridays.

Contact information for the Franco-American Collection is in the next letter.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: USM’s Franco-American Collection recently received a donation of 16mm film reels containing television footage of Lewiston Mayor Robert Couturier on WGAN-TV. The broadcasts appear to have been weekly addresses by the mayor in the early months of 1965.

Do you or your readers remember these TV appearances? We would like to hear from anyone with a connection to, or memories of, the broadcasts. We contacted WGME (WGAN-TV’s successor), but they were unable to help us.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Back in 1953 I can remember my brother-in-law singing a song: “Oh the wheel of the wagon is broken, it ain’t gonna turn no more.”

This is all I can remember (I am 72). I hope somebody older than I am can remember. — No Name, Lewiston

ANSWER: In the age of the Internet, there is no need to rely on memory. Not only did Sun Spots find the lyrics, but there are numerous recordings of the song on YouTube and other sites by singers such at Robert Wagoner, Patsy Montana, Roy Rogers, etc.

Here are the lyrics:

The wheel on the wagon is broken

It ain’t going to turn no more

My days on the prairie are over

There’s weeds around the old ranch door

There ain’t no campfire smoking

Where we sang when the day was through

The wheel of the wagon is broken

And gone is the west I knew

Goodbye, Goodbye Old Faithful

There’s a sign on the ranch house for sale

So Goodbye, Goodbye Old Faithful

It looks like the end of the trail

My days on the prairie are over

There’s weeds around the old ranch door

The wheel on the wagon is broken

It ain’t going to turn no more

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there any person or club that would be interested in fashion dolls — lace, transfers, yarn all cut up for latch hook? Yours for the taking. Also doll heads and hands. — No Name, 576-2186
