FARMINGTON — The Healthy Community Coalition has been awarded $45,000 by the Environmental Funders Network to continue the Mapping Our Footsteps project.

This program engages youth and families in educational and outdoor endeavors that expose them to Greater Franklin County’s natural environment and its physical activity opportunities.

“This funding will allow HCC to focus on increasing awareness and use of Greater Franklin County’s quality of place assets, with a broader outcome of long-term sustainability of the project,” said Heather Davis, HCC executive director.

“The project will continue to foster collaboration and build on the capacity of local schools, the university, organizations and social media to engage youth and families in a variety of educational and outdoor opportunities. These opportunities will expose youth and adults to the region’s outdoor natural resources and cultural heritage sites while also promoting physical activity through walks and hiking,” she said.

Founded in 1989 as one of Maine’s first healthy community coalitions, the mission of HCC is “to measurably improve the well-being of all people in Greater Franklin County and neighboring towns, using a coordinated public health approach of education, health promotion, and outreach.”
