ISLESBORO — Eric White netted 20 points and Alex Morton added 15 more as Rangeley pulled away from Islesboro in the fourth quarter for a 50-44 victory on Thursday in EWC basketball action.
The Lakers (2-3) overcame a stellar effort from Islesboro’s Charle Cilley, who led all scorers with 23 points, including six 3-pointers. Cameron Jack added 19 in the loss for the Eagles (0-7).
Spruce Mountain 64, Hall-Dale 45
JAY — Spruce Mountain built a 32-13 lead in the first half and hustled to a 64-45 win over Hall-Dale.
Nate Shink led the undefeated Phoenix (6-0) with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while James Barker chipped in with 12 points. Jake Bessey also contributed with 11 points in a well-balanced attack.
Sam Shepherd led the Bulldogs (4-2) with 14 points, their only player in double figures.
Madison 53, St. Dom’s 41
AUBURN — Madison’s defense held St. Dom’s to one point in the third quarter and erupted with 18 points as the Bulldogs dispatched the Saints with a 53-41 victory.
Madison’s Austin Kane and Steve Lawrence led the way with 13 points apiece.
For the Saints (2-4), Tom Applegate scored in the game-high 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
Mountain Valley 48, Winthrop 20
RUMFORD — Jacob Theriault scored 13 points while Ryan Nichols and Andrew Child each added seven as Mountain Valley beat Winthrop 48-20 in MVC boys’ basketball Thursday.
The Falcons (4-1) opened a 12-3 lead in the first quarter and had the deficit up to 27-5 by halftime. Taylor Morang led Winthroop (0-5) with six points.
Girls’ basketball
Boothbay 48, Mt. Abram 34
SALEM — Boothbay finished each half strong to knock off Mt. Abram, 48-34, in MVC girls’ basketball action Thursday.
Trailing by one point, the Seahawks limited the Roadrunners to six points in the second quarter to take a seven-point lead at halftime. Mt. Abram cut a point off of that deficit in the third quarter, but Boothbay exploded for 20 points in the fourth to pull away.
Megan Smith scored a game-high 16 points to lead Boothbay (4-2), while Zaza Andrews chipped in with 10 points. Miranda Smith had 10 points and Mikayla Luce nine points to lead Mt. Abram (2-3).
Madison 50, St. Dom’s 42
AUBURN — Madison used a 20-9 third quarter run to pull away from St. Dom’s and went on to post a 50-42 victory.
Mary Caron led the Saints (0-5) with 12 points and six assists, while Callie Greco also contributed with nine points.
Mountain Valley 56, Winthrop 9
WINTHROP — After sprinting out to a commading 15-3 advantage in the first frame, Mountain Valley raced away to record a 56-9 rout over Winthrop.
Veteran Ayla Allen led the Falcons (5-1) with 15 points, nine rebonds and five steals. Michaela White chipped in with 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
The Ramblers (0-5) were paced by Amy Carlson with four points.
Rangeley 48, Islesboro 20
ISLESBORO — After jumping out to a 10-point lead in the first half, Rangeley sprinted away to post a 48-20 victory over Islesboro.
Taylor Esty led the Lakers (4-1) with 16 points and eight rebounds. Emily Carrier chipped in with 11 points, while Tori Letarte added nine.
Autumn Johnson led the Eagles (3-5) with 10 points.
Girls’ hockey
Brunswick 6, St. Dom’s 1
AUBURN — Jen Machin and Rachel Maroney each netted a pair of goals to propel Brunswick to a 6-1 victory over St. Dom’s in girls’ hockey action.
Gilliam Ford and Mary Sasso also tallied for the Dragons (6-1-1) . Erin Gray made seven stops to notch the win.
The Saints (1-8) received their lone goal from Kayla McLellan in the second period. Nicole Keene turning aside 37 shots in net.
