WALES — Oak Hill High School’s Theatre in the Woods will present the musical “Little Shop of Horrors” Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 13-15.

One of the longest running Off-Broadway shows of all time, this spoof of 1950s sci-fi movies has become well known, thanks to a successful film version and a score by the songwriting team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken.

“Little Shop” is the story of a skid row floral assistant, Seymour, (played by Zachary Fisher) who becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood.

Soon Audrey II, named after Seymour’s secret love of his life, Audrey (Amanda Bloss) grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore. Audrey II offers Seymour fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination.

The plant’s voice is provided by Kayla Gayton with motions by puppeteers Elijah Washburn and Jordan McMullen. Other characters include Mr. Mushnik, owner of the flower shop (Michael Del Santo); Orin, the sadistic dentist (Patrick Caskin); and street urchins providing back-up singing in the style of the Supremes (Karissa Panzino, Emma Weissenfels, Cassidy Stevens, Kaitlyn Doyle, Gwen Fraser and September Brooks).

Rounding out the cast and playing various roles are Kenyon Fraser, Joe McGeoghegan, Emily McLean, Ryan LaBossiere, Abby Bossie and Abigail Thompson.

The play is directed by Lucy Rioux with musical direction by John Neal. Technical direction is under the supervision of Helen Sherman and includes Elizabeth Rosenshein, Declan Doyle, Sarah Carpenter, Chris Jones, Jacob Kupfer, Taylor Pelletier, Amber Pelletier and Jordan McMullen.

“Little Shop of Horrors” will be presented at 7 p.m. Jan. 13-14 and 2 p.m. Jan. 15.

Tickets, $8/$6 for students and seniors, will be sold at the door. For more information, contact Rioux at 582-5717 or lucyrioux@gmail.com.
