LEWISTON — The YWCA has a full schedule of swim lessons which are available mornings, afternoons, evenings and Saturday mornings. Registration is available now. Swim lessons will begin the week of Jan. 16. Details of times may be found at www.ywcamaine.org or by calling 795-4050.
Water babies, Puddle Jumpers and Parent & Tot classes are available for children ages 6 month through 35 months. These are water adjustment classes. Parents accompany their child in the water. YWCA staff will help parents select the appropriate class and there are many time slots during the week.
Water Explorers is for children 2 to 6 years who are afraid of being in the water. Parents accompany their child in the water.
Aquatots, Guppies, Jellyfish, Polliwog and Tadpole classes are all designed to help children from ages 3 to 15 learn and develop the skills to become proficient swimmers. Classes are paced for the age and ability level of each child. YWCA staff will help parents decide on the most appropriate level for their child.
American Red Cross Water Safety classes for stroke development, stroke refinement and fitness are offered to youth.
Adult lessons are available for those 15 and older who have never had swimming lesson or are still working on beginner strokes.
Introduction to Competitive swimming is for ages 8-16. This class is designed for swimmers interested in continuing swimming with an introduction to participating in a team environment. Classes will focus on endurance, stroke development, breathing techniques, flip turns and starts. A great class for any one who is done with swim lessons but would like an introduction to a more competitive environment.
