JAY — A representative from Electricity Maine will give a presentation Tuesday, Jan. 24, on the company’s service as a supplier of electricity.

The talk will be held at 2 p.m. at the town office.

An electric bill has two parts to it, Jay Town Manager Ruth Cushman said Wednesday. Central Maine Power Co. is the distributor of electricity and then there is a supplier of electricity, she said. CMP would remain the distributor but consumers have several options on suppliers they can choose that people may not know about. Electricity Maine is one such company.

Electricity Maine is a Maine-owned and operated electricity supplier serving residential and small businesses in the CMP and Bangor Hydro Electric Co. territories. According to the company’s website at electricityme.com, the company is based in Auburn.

“Most of us, including me, just stick with the standard supplier but there are companies out there competing for customers,” Cushman said.

Electricity Maine is supplying electricity at 17 percent less than the standard supplier, she said.

This informational session will allow residents to get information about what is available. There is no obligation on anyone’s part, she said.

“This could be a significant savings for residents, and we’re going to provide a place to have a meeting,” Cushman said. “Everyone is welcome to attend.”
