Lorraine Dinardo, 82, receives a hand-sewn blanket from Rana Elfaham, 6, and Martha Bucher at Marshwood Center in Lewiston on Thursday. Elfaham and Bucher are two of the youths who made blankets through The Dorcas Project, an after-school activity at The Root Cellar in Lewiston. Children were taught how to sew by a group of volunteers affiliated with the Church of the Brethren. About 120 blankets were sewn by at-risk children. Each child took one blanket home and gave the other to a Marshwood resident. Sarah Minnich of Lisbon Falls, with the help of Bucher and others, spent more than a year working on the project.
