Saturday and Sunday were slow days in Auburn police circles, owing to the cold weather. Not a prisoner was in the cells until after nine o’clock Sunday night when one of the officers found a man attempting to climb the hill near the police station on Court Street. He was well intoxicated and found it rather hard climbing. He had no overcoat or gloves on and could not tell where he was bound so that the officer thought it best to take him into custody or he might get in some out-of-the-way place and freeze to death.

Lewiston Welfare Department Investigator Georges Rancourt announced last night that he is a candidate for the Democratic nomination as Androscoggin County Commissioner in the June primary election.
The county commission post is for six years and in heavily Democratic Androscoggin County nomination in the primaries is considered tantamount to election.
Rancourt, former mayor of Lewiston and a former member of the Maine House, is eligible to retire from his municipal post at any time.
25 years ago, 1987
Lewiston Finance Director Richard T. Metivier accepted the Award for Distinguished Budget Presentation from the Government Finance Officers Association Tuesday.
The award, presented to the city of Lewiston, is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting, and represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. To date, only 200 organizations have received the award nationwide.
