Candlelight vigils were scheduled for Sunday in Portland, Augusta and Waterville as part of a nationwide chain of vigils hosted by the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

The vigils, to honor and remember victims and survivors of gun violence, will begin at noon at Portland City Hall, Augusta City Hall and on the Messalonskee Bridge in Waterville. Sunday marks the first anniversary of the Arizona shooting that killed six people, including 9-year-old Christina Green, and injured 13 others, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Th vigils in Maine are being co-sponsored by Boys to Men, Crisis Services, Maine Citizens Against Handgun Violence, Maine Council of Churches, Maine Medical Association, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Peace Action Maine, the Maine chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility and States United to Prevent Gun Violence.
