POLAND — Freshman guard Michaella Arsenault drained a game-high 16 points to lead Poland to a 40-39 overtime victory over perennial powerhouse York in WMC girls’ basketball action Saturday.
Katrina Seeley hit a pivotal free throw in overtime to seal the deal for the Knights (3-7) as York only managed to regain two of the three points they trailed by early in the frame.
Arsenault recorded 10 of her 16 points in the fourth and overtime frames.
Junior forward Emily Campbell led the Wildcats (7-3) with 10 points on three field goals and four free throws in the losing effort.
Edward Little 56, Lawrence 22
FAIRFIELD — Ashlee Arnold scored 18 points and Kory Norcross added 16 to lead Edward Little to an overpowering 56-22 victory over Lawrence in a KVAC girls’ basketball game Saturday.
The Red Eddies (8-2) led 10-5, 24-12 and 37-20 at the quarter breaks.
Danielle Spaulding scored eight points to lead Lawrence (1-9).
Gray-NG 70, North Yarmouth 34
YARMOUTH — Haylee Cote led all scorers with 19 points — including five three-pointers — and Michele Dehetre drained four treys for 12 points to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a commanding 70-34 victory over North Yarmouth Academy in WMC basketball action Saturday.
Maggie Chaplin and Maria Valente chipped in with 10 each for the Patriots (4-5). Morgan Scully paced the Panthers (4-5) with 14, including one from beyond the arc.
Greenville 62, Buckfield 38
GREENVILLE — Greenville prevented Buckfield from scoring a point in the first quarter and Miranda Drinkwater piled up 18 points as the Lakers (6-4) cruised to a 62-38 victory over Buckfield (2-9) in a girls’ basketball game Saturday.
The Lakers built a 36-13 lead at the half and simply glided away in the second half.
Buckfield’s Danielle Patrie and Caitlin Henderson combined for 37 of the Bucks’ 38 points.
Hall-Dale 34, Mt. Abram 31
SALEM — Senior point guard Kristina Buck poured in 15 pionts to lift Hall-Dale to a 34-31 victory over Mt. Abram in MVC girls’ basketball action Saturday.
With the game tied at 31-31 and 1:07 remaining in regulation, Buck hit the final field goal from three-point range to secure the Bulldogs (9-2) a second seasonal matchup win over Mt. Abram.
The Roadrunners (5-5) led 17-13 at the half. And, things appeared promising as they held the conference leading scorer Carylanne Wolfington to just three points. Hall-Dale had outscored Mt. Abram by 34 points in their first seasonal matchup.
Annie Dexter and Miranda Smith recorded a team-high nine points each for Mt. Abram.
Hockey
Leavitt 4, Winslow 2
WINSLOW — Danica Nadeau scored the eventual game-winning goal with a ricochet off the goalie’s face mask as Leavitt grabbed a 4-2 victory over Winslow in girls’ ice hockey action Saturday.
Kayla Royer initiated the scoring with a short handed goal following a hard forecheck and positioning herself at the top of the circle for the Red Hornets (7-5). Sophomore center Taylor Landry tallied a pair of goals for Leavitt.
Senior defenseman Sarah Fowler nailed her second goal and game-tying tally in the first period right from the face-off for the Black Raiders (3-8-1). She skated straight down the center and buried the puck to the glove side of the net.
