DEAR SUN SPOTS: If I remember correctly, earlier this fall you mentioned Cosmetic Enhancement as a dermatologist coming once a week to 35 Vernon St., Auburn . I visited their website and their office in Auburn. From what I can see they are D.O.s (doctors of osteopathy) at a spa in Portland, and not dermatologists. I’m having second thoughts about having them work on my face. I would love to hear from your readers who have had procedures done with them. Thank you for helping so many of us. — [email protected]

ANSWER: Sun Spots checked out your questions with Carol, the office manager at Cosmetic Enhancements, who said that their two doctors are indeed D.O.s and that they never advertised as dermatologists.

(This is correct. The reader in the Sept. 23 letter was looking for the “cosmetic dermatologists” that had advertised in the Sun Journal. Sun Spots found that ad and relayed the contact information, but did not correct the terminology in her answer.)

Carol said Dr. Maria Atkins has been running Cosmetic Enhancement for 20 years and is in demand for the work she and another doctor do, which includes facial fillers (such as Botox), skin tightening with lasers, hair removal, tattoo removal, and minimizing acne scarring and age spots, among other services.

They do not do medical procedures, such as, for one example, dealing with suspicious moles.

Carol, the office manager, said “We can make you look better, do a facelift without doing a facelift.”

All consults are free, so Carol said to come in and see Dr. Atkins and ask any questions you might have.

She said that the company’s plan is eventually to be in Auburn two days a week, but for now it is once a month. Their offices in Portland are at 1375 Congress St., 877-636-1100.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to your Jan. 5 column, Dawna Hall also makes memorial teddy bears. You can reach her at 318-5905, [email protected]. Her website is http://tinyurl.com/6sojb9n. — Diane Bonneau, [email protected]

ANSWER: Sun Spots checked out Dawna’s website and discovered she is a personal organizer and that making teddy bears is one aspect of her efforts to organize through “repurposing.”

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I saw your Jan. 5 column on doll repair. I used to do doll repairs and am interested in doing so again. You can put my name and telephone number back in for repairs on dolls. — Faye Mercier, Dixfield, 562-4549

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I noticed in your Jan. 6 column the mention of leather workers and a few companies that will fix zippers, and other things. We are a leather supply shop where people get materials to do their own leather work. We sell buckles, tools, leather hides, books and so much more.

Our company name is Maine-Line Industries, and we are on the second floor, 35 Beech St., Lewiston, next to the field where the balloons take off for the balloon festival. It is an old mill. Our website is MaineLineLeather.com, and our number is 782-6622. Ask for me. — David Brown, [email protected]
