AUBURN — Marie Antoinette Demers, 94, of Auburn, passed away Saturday, Jan. 7.
She was born Sept. 10, 1917.
Although she had no children of her own, she cared for a young boy until a permanent home could be found for him and helped with the care and upbringing of nieces, Shirley Messer and Rana Roberts.
Antoinette worked for a short time in a shoe factory and also took in work as a seamstress. She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and she and her husband had a part in the building of the first Kingdom Hall in Auburn, as well as the one that is currently at the same location. They also had a part in the building of the Kingdom Hall in Lewiston.
Antoinette dedicated 28 years of her life to the full time Bible educational work so that others could come to know and appreciate the truths in God’s word as she herself did. As part of her training, she attended the Pioneer Service School twice, most recently in 2005 in Augusta.
Antoinette and Bob Demers were married Nov. 11, 1937, the start of 63 years of happy marriage.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Antoinette, as she was known to many, was predeceased by her husband, Robert L. Demers; parents, Laureat Michaud and Marie Antoinette Bilodeau Michaud; and brothers, Robert M. and Bertrand Michaud.
Her death is a great loss to her family and many others in Auburn, Lewiston and the surrounding area.
