RANGELEY — Selectmen were shown a draft version of the master plan for the town’s Lakeside Park on Tuesday.

Arek Galle of Gates, Leighton and Associates of Providence, R.I., presented the plan. Gates, Leighton is a landscape architecture consulting firm with projects around New England and abroad.

Selectmen authorized the research and design for the master plan in December 2009. The plan shown Tuesday represents Phase 1 of a multipart planning process.

Beginning with reasons for investing in the park, which include community cohesion, property values and tourism, the report continued with a detailed description of the property and a summary of the existing park conditions.

After a conceptual overview, the master plan goes on to list general and specific recommendations, such as reconfiguring paved areas, improving park visibility from Main Street and addressing drainage problems on the property.

On Wednesday night, Galle presented the draft of the master plan to a meeting of the Rangeley Park Commission. The commission will schedule a public hearing of the master plan for the near future.

On Tuesday, selectmen unanimously voted a permit for a private event to be held as part of this weekend’s Snodeo. Boss Power Equipment will host Arctic Cat and Ski Doo demonstrations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Main Street on Saturday, with the snowmobiles exhibiting jumps and flips and other feats.

Town Manager Tim Kane said Boss Power Equipment might hold a preview of the event Friday.
