FREEPORT — Clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch enabled Gray-New Gloucester to hold on for a 46-41 victory over Freeport in a WMC girls’ basketball game Saturday.

The Patriots (6-6) trailed 11-10 after the first quarter, but surged ahead in the middle two frames by scores of 22-20 and 30-29.

Maria Valente hit a key 3-pointer in the fourth quarter to extend a tight Patriots’ lead to 39-33. Valente then added 4-for-4 shooting at the foul line. Haylee Cote scored five of her seven points in the final quarter to help keep the Patriots in front.

Valente led Gray-NG with 18 points, while Maggie Chaplin added 12 points. Nina Davenport led a balanced attack by Freeport (5-7) with 11 points.

Buckfield 30, Sacopee Valley 25

BUCKFIELD — Kaitlin Rines drained 12 points, including two 3-pointers, as Buckfield came out on top, 30-25, in a defensive giels’ basketball contest Saturday.

Danielle Patrie chipped in with nine for the Bucks (3-10).

Morgan Sanborn had the hot hand for Sacopee Valley (4-10), accounting for 17 of the team’s 25 points in the loss.
