FARMINGTON — The Western Maine CA$H Coalition (WMCC) is celebrating its 10th anniversary of annual tax preparation this year. The kick-off will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27 at Bangor Savings Bank, Main Street.

Free food will be available while coalition representatives, legislators and community members talk about the positive impact of CA$H Maine on Greater Franklin County.

WMCC is one of eight coalitions throughout the state that provide free tax preparation and resources to help families of low to moderate income find ways to save and make the most out of their money.

There are 50 nonprofit and for-profit partners involved with the coalitions. The program also provides resources to community members that will help them earn, keep and grow their money.

Tax preparing volunteers receive training to become certified by the IRS. Volunteers are trained to look for individuals who qualify for federal tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child and Dependent Care Credit.

In Franklin County, free tax preparation will begin the day before the official kick-off on Thursday, Jan. 26. Appointments will continue until the last scheduled day of Saturday, March 24.

The tax site will be open from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays on the third floor of Roberts Learning Center, University of Maine at Farmington.

While walk-ins will be served as time permits, schedule an appointment to ensure tax preparer availability. Call 207-491-3747 to make an appointment.
