MEXICO — The Mexico Public Library is getting ready to host a fun-filled winter incentive reading program. “Chill Out and Read!” will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 1, and will run through Thursday, March 1.

For every two hours that kids ages 1 to 5 spend reading or being read to, they will earn a prize of their choice. For every three hours that kids ages 6 to 12 spend reading or being read to, they also will earn a prize of their choice. Prizes will include a choice of books for their age and reading level, or other various and fun treats.

Additionally, for every two hours a 1- to 5-year-old child reads, and for every three hours a 6- to 12-year-old child reads, they may enter a ticket for a prize drawing. The winning ticket will be drawn at the conclusion of the program. There will be one drawing for kids ages 1-5, and a separate drawing for kids ages 6-12. Any participant who logs in at least 15 hours of reading time during the four-week program will earn a free movie pass to Narrow Gauge Cinemas in Farmington.

Sign-ups for the program will begin on Monday, Jan. 30. Participants may come in to the library any time during the month of February to have their reading time counted, to choose their earned prizes and to enter the prize drawings.

Chill Out and Read! isn’t just for kids. It’s for adults, too, including young adults age 13 and up. To participate, an adult reader simply needs to fill out a ticket at the Circulation Desk with their name, phone number and book title for any book he or she reads during the duration of the program. Prize drawings will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 15, and Thursday, March 1.
